Presenting you one of Senior Library's reading activity for the Year-8 students - Science Fiction. Well, it is the same site as the reading list - Conflict. Jacqui and I has agreed to use only one site due to the following reasons: 1. To keep and not use up all the 10 websites per account (currently we are maintaining 1 account - Atiqah's work email account) 2. To maintain one website per year group - e.g. only published one theme and hide the rest (Weebly has this hide function which is very useful). Therefore, the year 8 students could view one theme during that particular period. The challenge for this project is to cite all the images and videos. The Senior Library uses the Harvard system for referencing. So, you could see that I am a sucker for complete referencing for every images (big or small or tiny) and videos. If I were to reference that same image (look at the banner at the top of the page), I would be citing 'source:' instead. Another update for my working development - I am also part of the Reference Team as of today (16th September 2013). So I am now basically in this equation: Interactive Team (60%) + Reference Team (40%) = A stressed-out Azizah (hahaha). Or you might have been hearing myself quoting this, "I've been ripped into 2 parts, so don't get yourself (and myself) confused!" or "I am a gypsy, I'm constantly on the move." If you are lucky, you will be hearing both - which is unlikely. Next - the Great Beginning for the Senior Library website - Susan helped to broadcast on iSams for volunteers to contribute their voices for recordings. So far, only one student from the 6th form (beautiful, male voice) responded. Thank you Nathan, you are a big help. Looks like I have to do the one on one approach and offering instant rewards. So it is still progressing. The Book Awards is populating and updating the latest titles and winners. One more update - Summer Reading Transition. A memo has been sent out to Phil Edwards (Head of Year-7) to instruct all the Year-7 to update their their reading trails. It is progressing slowwwwwlllyyyy.... Last update for this blog - Halloween Display is still a work in-progress. *peace dot!*

These are the 2 displays that I blogged about earlier.
1) 10 Books Must Read Before They Hit The Big Screen - This 'baby' of mine was conceived before the recent Summer break (2013). It took a great deal of searches from the Internet, YouTube and a BBC News & Entertainment clips. I am excited with this topic as they are 5 movies which I am definitely going to be watching in the movies. There are more titles that didn't make it to the board as we haven't buy them yet e.g. The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort (starring Leonardo DiCaprio), Serena by Ron Rash and Horns by Joe Hill (starring Daniel Radcliffe). Back to the movies I wanted to catch - a) City of Bones (must watch as if you are a Twilight & Harry Potter fan) b) Divergent (if you like the Hunger Games series and hungry for more such movies) c) Hunger Games; Catching Fire (if you have watched Hunger Game and also a fan of Jennifer Lawrence) d) The Book Thief (it is a big hoo-haa claiming that it is a good book) e) Nelson Mandela; A Long Walk to Freedom (he is a World icon, it would be a pity if you missed it) I would suggest that you to watch Invictus - 2009 biographical film (starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon) too. 2) Make Your Mark; with International Dot Day - This particular display is a challenge. It is to celebrate the creativity that inspires. This is an initiative made inspires from a lovely picture book entitled The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We only have one copy of the book. It took me a day to put this up. The display featured the book itself on how creativity was born and how one could inspires others by passing on the act of encouragement. It is a beautiful story with lovely illustrations. I suppose it would be a great gift to any child and people who keep inspiring others. I would like to dedicate this board to all of those people who inspires me - you know who you are! And I thank the boss who linked me up with this website and suggested to do something about it. Display-In-Progress: Halloween *peace dot* This new term would be a very interesting term for the 'Director of Display' (just joking). Well, it is interesting for me because the Library has a line-up of topics to be featured. The above are just a few displays that I managed to put up almost instantly. I have another 2 more displays on my desk that is waiting to be put up.
1) In Memory of Seamus Heaney - The late Mr Heaney is recently deceased and JM pointed out that the Library should do a display for him. Since we have many poetry books by him (a well-known and loved Irish poet who ever won a Nobel Prize), I made used of the existing poetry display and added one of his poetry. The poem was extracted from one of his books, Death of a Naturalist, 2006 (ISBN 9780571230839) using Fireworks. 2) On the Go; Audio Book Collection - This display is to feature our audio books. Just like last year's On the Go display, I am into the audio books display. I don't know why I am into this display. Maybe it is the fact that not many people know that we have the collection or it was because I had a feedback from a parent inquired about it on Day 1 of the display. I must say that I beamed like a 'proud mama of her new baby' (and I could still feel that same beam.. heehee). Like the poetry display, I recycled the lizard poster I used last year and improvised a bit using props from the Art Department. I am happy with the look and the presence of the display. Maybe we could invest some $$ to print a proper quality poster. 3) World Architectural Day 2013; Celebrating Beautiful Libraries - This one is a real challenge for me. It took me weeks of production from the concept thinking to the actual pasting. The official website only features the conference and the seminars just like the IFLA WLIC 2013. So after days of going through the websites and hitting the NF Art collection in search of inspiration, I stumbled upon an interesting article about a bookstore in an old cathedral. Using this inspiration, I googled about beautiful libraries around the world and got myself to create this beautiful display. I didn't put all the libraries so I pick and choose some of the libraries I like. My favourite (the one I've enlarge the photograph) would be the Delft University of Technology Library in the Nethelands. What's yours? 2 more displays are pending to be put up - International Dot Day; Make Your Mark and 10 Books to Read Before They Hit the Big Screen. And one more to be in the making - Halloween. Not many people know what we were up to during the summer. Well, we had new compactors for the textbooks, new books & textbooks to be cataloged and many, many more... The video below sums it all up. |
