Mother's Day is around the corner (though it is just a month away). I thought that it is only right to put up a display featuring mothers (or mom or mama etc.) since most of us here in TLRC are mothers too (or soon to be mothers in the future). So I did some searching of strong book characters on mothers and I am very surprise with my findings. Search hits ranging from bad mothers to worst mothers and eventually to evil mothers topped the list while a list of good mothers were very few.
Though I have to agree that these notable bad mothering do mould the characteristics of the children in the book. Or it is just a way to make its readers feel more sympathetic and cherish their own mothers. Nonetheless, I have generated a list of books on the good, the bad and the mummy... The Good Ones:

It was that time of the beginning of the month where all your display boards (almost all) got a make-over. A simple make-over in this case. Reviving the Classics Series: Comic Adaptation is the first installation for this series. We are trying to push out the classics collection. Reading the classics in comic is another way to entice the reluctant readers to pick up a range of reading materials (that is what I've read somewhere on the web). By featuring the examples of the books we have, I hope that the students would take notice. Fingers crossed. Below are the titles that we have in our collection.
The Iron Lady: It is the 1st death Anniversary of Margaret Thatcher. I didn't manage to erect a display for her last year due to the fact that I was running out of time. Thus, I make it a point to feature her this April 2014. It is quite sad that we do not really have a big collection about this powerful lady. Nonetheless, we do have a few books mentioning the Iron Lady (see the titles below). JM also suggested to post some thought-provoking questions about her; for example Was she a transformational leader?' and my favourite question, 'Do you think Britain is ready for another "Iron Lady" running as a Prime Minister in the future?'
OLE OLE Brasil Soccer Star Biographies: The football fever has yet to begin... I know but it is not too early to start the 'fever bug'. Moreover, I have one empty display board 'screaming' to be filled up. I had plans for this 2014 World Cup (can you sniff that another contest is coming?). I am quite excited about it but I will reveal the surprise only.... next month! This month's display is only featuring the soccer star biographies such as:
