This year's Christmas window display was rather another simple one. Most of the props were handmade, from the angel, the Santa and his sleigh (I cheated - these were from 2012 display) and to the tree with baubles (these are new!!!). It was easy to make the tree using a paper cone and the leaves were cut-out circles from green card. As for the baubles, these are cut-out circles from the pages of a weeded book. And they looked decent!

We have a few new chess sets. The game of chess is highly popular among the boys during break and lunch time. And I am glad that we have some more sets to go around. We used to have a glass chess set and due to its high use rate, some pieces were broken. And we have the magnetic set too. This new addition is the wooden set.
We have a new word game too - it is something like scrabbles but without a board. Students could lay the tiles on the floor/table in any fashion. Our next popular game would be the poker cards. It is the 'in' thing among the boys now besides chess. No, they are not gambling but rather showing off their magic tricks. I have to admit shamefully that I participated in their impromptu magic 'shows' and contributed to the noise level. I am so impress with them and their skills. One of the boys explained that it involves speed, maths and a dash of luck. And of course, practice makes perfect. I started off my day with one of my favourite things to do by defeating the absurd Monday blues bug. I did this by searching for crafts on Youtube. There were so many crafts and I am tempted to do all but I have to stick to several basic criteria in selecting the crafts for the Collaboration Zone.
Well, I did succumb to the temptation and tried several crafts, although I do not have enough materials with me at the time. I used recycling paper instead and I turned out to be decent. I am sure (when the resources are available) that these crafts would looked fabulous after several practices. Below are some of the crafts which I've bravely ventured. Do try them out. You will need: - A bottle of glue - A pair of sharp scissors - Few sheets of recycled paper This is just an update of the Library's display before I went on my long maternity leave.
Copyright Day - This is a recycled display from last year. F1 Race 2014 - Showcasing books on the F1 History and its drivers. Year 7 Games @Lunch - A permanent display. Ace your Exams - Sharing tips on preparing for the upcoming exams. Bike Rush - We have quite a number of books on riding a bicycle and travelogues while riding. Highlighting books from the biography collection. POETRY Tree - Sharing poet of the month, Michael Rosen and his books. 100 years sisnce WW1 - Displaying books and poems pertaining to WW1. |
