I have not been blogging regularly than usual this week. It has been 'super-duper-crazy-busy' week. With the (1)textbook processing, (2) collection weeding, (3) Y7 textbook allocation (yes, we started a bit early this year) and (4) moving the new textbooks into the Interactive Zone, to make space for more uncatalogue new textbooks (Yes, there are more books to catalogue on Monday!!!). Only 4 jobs? Yes, only these 4 time-consuming and strenuous works that keeps this month of Ramadhan a busy one for us. Last Ramadhan (also fall during the summer) was equally busy and challenging. This year's Ramadhan is a little different - our team (the 3As&1N) is more prepared and much more systematic. At least I am more prepared than last year and know what is expected and am armed with all the things I need. Nonetheless, I am proud with ourselves. *a round of applause, please*
We are doing textbook cataloging and processing this week. As usual, I am listing down tips on how to go about it (please add on other tips if I've missed them out): Tip 1: T barcodes - printed in loads and ready Tip 2: Name plates - printed, cut and ready Tip 3: Many strong pairs of arms, legs and .... - for unpacking many boxes of textbooks. (Note: You will 'grow' some muscles after unpacking those - you could ask Nurul *maths textbooks*) Tip 4: Choose a comfortable PC in the study zone (Preferably near the table where the new books are) [Visit a post from Atiqah - a migration from Interactive Zone to Migration Zone - I lioke] Tip 5: Your trusty scanner - of course Tip 6 (Top tip): UHU glue.... Mdm Ong is helping us out with the processing of the current textbooks - giving them a fresh new look. She is the one who introduced me to that swanky-looking UHU bottle (see pic). It could twist itself and do various kinds of style. It is cleaner to use and hassle-free. It could last longer as it contains more volume of glue. Since Susan has ordered the UHU tube in bulk last month, we'll have to use them up first - before we could get our hands on that swanky-looker UHU. I can't wait!!! But before that, let me finish off sticking the nameplates in the textbooks that I've cataloged yesterday.
If there is an award for books, why not have an award just for the book cover? A good book cover plays a vital role in promoting the book e.g. to get it off the shelves in the bookstore or to promote the book in the school library displays.
Honestly, I have been putting books with colourful and nice-looking covers. It instantly brightened up the exhibit and breathed some live to it. If you are a non-library professional, you won't know what 398.2 means.
I saw this post on a tweet which I recently been following. It is interesting to know that there are people who make such jewellery (see Dewey Decimal Jewelry). I would love to have that pendant. I was googling for library positions. It is quite a shock to see that there are a list of organization that are recruiting. SOTA, SMU, SPH and schools are looking for library para-professionals.
I am quite tempted to give it a go. But it would be a pity to pull out my baby from his school which is nearby my office. Should I, should I not? Dilemma.... 5 must-have things to bring along when you are out renewing books in the classrooms:
1) 1 bottle of hand sanitation spray 2) 2 portable & reliable scanner / a hand-held offline scanner 3) A big hand carry bag to carry the items above 4) A trolley - the one with solid wheels 5) Your partner-in-crime who would suggest you to log onto Youtube and play some good music while scanning all those dusty books. *I'm a happy gal!* Just sharing this cute image I got from the Facebook. Anyway, enjoy the summer holidays for those who are going home to the UK, Australia and the rest of the World. To those who are still on the 'Little Red Dot', just hang in there! On another note, Bintan.... Here we come!
